Chronicles of a Selfish Mommy

Archive for December 2010

That’s what friends are for….Wait?!  Is that not how the song goes?  Well, mine does.  In a blog post that has been a long time coming, please refrain from reading if you cry easily, don’t like sentimentality, or barf at too much friendship mushy stuff.  This one is for the ladies in my life… to all the girls I loved before…wait, that’s not it either….here we go….

For the bestie over at My Crazy Life, thank you for making me rethink some of my positions in life.  You are beyond excellent at seeing the other side of things & make me a better person for expanding my view.  I also really envy & admire your conviction to your family.  I truly wish I was able to put the wants & needs of my husband, myself, & children first more often.  You show true strength when it matters most.  I also love your committment to health & fitness.  You are the sole reason I am in great shape & have improved my speed.

For the bestie over at Typical Tina & My Mom’s Memos, I admire your loyalty to your friends & family.  I love your enthusiasm for all you do!  I envy your ability to set a course & stay it.  I wish I could start something and finish it (in record time) the way you do!  I am grateful for the all the time & effort you put into our friendship.  I envy your ability to roll with our punches and take a good joke while making your own.  You are the sole reason I have any desire to better my surroundings & have learned to be a better friend from having you in my life!

For the creative Mommy over at Team S & Leopards& Lilies, I wish I had half the creative ability that you have in one finger! Your committment to finding the right balance in life astounds me.  Your strength & courage in adversity has built my spirit & strengthened my resolve to find balance in my life.  Your open heart and easy spirit are truly beautiful!

For the fit in everywhere Mommy over at Salties & Sweeties, I envy your ability to blend & build seemless relationships with all those you meet.  I admire your resolve to nurture and build a strong family.  Your closeness with your family (immediate & extended) challenges me to be a better sister, daughter, cousin, niece, wife, & mother.  I think your laugh is infectious & your easy-going nature a pleasure to have in my life!

For the miles away chica bonita at your ultra private Monica Moves It, I wish you were closer.  I miss our conversations.  I admire your committment to chasing your dreams & desires and making them a reality!  Your goal oriented nature makes me want to push myself harder, but I also envy your ability to truly be in the moment and let down your hair.  Your ability to network and build relationships is beyond enviable.  You’re an inspiration to me in more ways than you know!

To the ladies in my life, THANK YOU for being my confidantes, my sounding boards, my inspirations, but most importantly, my friends!

Not the best pic, but here we are!

In a blog post stolen from Better Together… are my wants for Christmas

Dear Santa,

World Peace

Feed the starving

Free those oppressed & in persecution

PFFT… that we have my pageant answer, on to what I REALLY want…. this blog isn’t called Selfish for nothing, by the by, I am also incredibly spoiled.

Let’s start small.  Like around the neck small.  Tops on my list is a little piece of jewelry from Posh Mommy.

Posh Mommy Gold Square Necklace w/Kids' Names & Birthstones

Moving on to something more practical.  I really, really want a notebook computer.  I currently only have a desktop & it has done its time.  I would like a purple Dell Mini Netbook.

Purple Dell Mini Netbook

I also want a Coach wristlet, please.

Coach New Sutton Large Wristlet

And then in my perfect world, I would be asking & receiving

once a week housekeeper

daily nutritious & delicious meals prepared for us

a pill that allows me to eat whatever I want & not get fat nor clog my arteries

I’ve been a really good Mommy & wife, so I totally know I am on the “good list”!

With all honesty & sincerity,

Selfish Mommy

PS – Selfish Mommy can dream….

What would you do for a little?

Today the kids, my mother, & I went to visit Santa at our ghetto fabulous mall.  You know the one, the one that has been around for ages.  The one that no longer has any relevant chain stores.  The one that has a Santa that totally rocks!  We have been visiting this Santa since Connor was about a yr old.  There is never a line, he has a real beard, and is super nice!

This year they upped their ante and added a new chair, some new accessories, and even made it “snow”.  So awesome!  The downside?  This Santa didn’t roll into town until 11am.  This time there was also a small line….nothing horrible, though.

As we were waiting in line, I snapped a couple of pics of Brooke in her cute outfit.  I figured that there was a good chance that we wouldn’t get her in the picture with Santa.  Plus, it was SUPER cute!  Thanks for the super cute hand me downs from My Crazy Life

Finally coming up to Santa, I sent Nana with my Evo phone to take some pics.  I just wanted one good pic for this post, just one.  You know what I got the entire time my kids were visiting Santa?  Here’s the conversation:

Me: Here’s the phone.  I put it in camera mode. Just push this button.

Nana: OK, I can do that.

2 seconds later….

Nana: it disappeared! what happened?  fix it!

Me: it’s a touch screen, touch it & slide it on.  It should return right back to camera mode.  Watch.

Nana: I have no idea what you just did….

missing my son talk to Santa….I now hear

Nana: that’s it, you’re not getting any pictures from me.  I can’t do this.  It’s broken.

Deciding to ignore her, I walk over to Santa with a screaming Brooke.  Fun for me, I get to be in the picture with Santa & my kids.  Thank goodness I wore make-up!  Afterwards I jump up and grab the phone only to get this shot…

In the background I hear, this damn phone. It just keeps disappearing….sigh.

What did you get for your $20 5 minute experience with Santa?

There was a rare sighting today.  Not many people get to witness such an occasion, especially not yours truly.  Behold, Selfish Mommy & Daddy eating alone in peace undisturbed by such things as kids.  Also notice the unusual location, this is not their typical feeding grounds of Freebirds, BBQ, or sandwiches, but a Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant!  Glorious!  Truly a momentous spotting!

PS – Selfish Daddy has gotten so used to eating as quickly as possible in order to appease the lil ones that he was caught empty-handed in this photo.

Our gift for partying could only be shown in picture

Saturday night was PAR-TAY central at the Selfish Household.  We held our annual White Elephant Party & boy did we all have a good time!  Some of us (we won’t name names, but his name starts with Selfish & ends with Daddy) had more than others.

Let’s just say that we did it up like we were childless!  It started out simple enough.

Then the drinks started flowing & it started to look like this….

Finally, we got to the White Elephant portion of the evening.  I thought it started out pretty sweet with some “educational” material for Selfish Mommy.  But , oh no, it got totally better as I ended up with the real winner……

Educational Reading Material

I was excited to get the cock!
