Chronicles of a Selfish Mommy

I really, really, really wish that getting massages and facials were more me.  I want so badly to love them, but if I have to be truthful – I just don’t feel more relaxed and refreshed from them.  Maybe I am just not going to the right places, maybe I need a different style or type?  Whatever it may be; in the end, I know why I don’t get them often.

As I am trying to relax in a dark room, my face pressed into this massage table – I am thinking, “wow, I must have a small face or head”.  Basically, it almost went straight through that donut shaped head cushion.  The massage starts and it’s nice, yet I don’t feel the “ah” moment.  The facial scared me, let’s just say lots of hot towels covering my face – um, no….

The place I went to was great, though.  Very well-managed, organized, clean.  My masseuse & facialist was lovely and very accommodating.  I am fairly sure this not really enjoying it is just me.  At very least, I knocked 2 more things off my 101 list: Massage and Facial.  I won’t add these back for the next round of things I want to do, yet I will probably try it again – yea, I know….

Over the Memorial Day Weekend, this little Texas Family got some coverage.  We had a great long weekend starting on Friday with family fun time on Lake Travis.  Connor and I rode on the tube, Jeff did some boarding, we went to lunch at Carlos n Charlies, followed by some hang time in Devil’s Cove.  While at Carlos n Charlies, we caught the eye of a KVUE News.  I was interviewed about our Memorial Day plans and about boating on the lake.  You can see that tidbit here.

On Saturday, Jeff and I headed out to Lake Austin sans kiddos.  We met up with some of our friends and checked out a killer pad right on the water.  This place was S W E E T!  As we were waiting to pick up some folks, we were snapped by the Austin 360 crew for their A-List Gallery.  You can check out that picture here.  This was the start of the day, I will not post any pictures of the end.  Let’s just say drinking boxed wine in the heat might make you look better to me, but most certainly not the other way around…..

Finally, on Sunday we headed over to our friends the Malek’s for some BBQ.  It was a great time, with great food, and even better people!  Lots of yummy Fajitas with all the fixings and sides.  The kids played in the backyard with a pool and sprinklers while the adults got to chill and chat.

Ah, living the good life…..  🙂

Just  a quick update on the kiddos in the Selfish Household.

Not too much new to report on the lil man.  He talks too much, thinks he is always right, & has to have the last word.  Where does this kid get it from?!  Hum, I wonder….  😛

He is now an advanced Yellow Belt & is still hating every minute of it, but I think it is exactly what he needs.  Mom wins!  He starts gymnastics again next week and this time some of the boys from his soccer team are joining in on the fun.  God bless those instructors!  I still need to find some swim classes for him – bad Mom….

His favorite color is orange and I cringe as I write this – I will infiltrate with the maroon….

Brooke had her 15 month check up a couple of weeks ago.  She’s bow-legged – awesome!  She’s also short – I blame being bow-legged (ok it’s prolly my fault, FINE!).  Anyhoo, she’s only 29.5 inches tall (15%tile) & 23 lbs (50%tile).  She has about 12 or so teeth which she will bite you with & which she LOVES to brush using the electric toothbrush.   Her new fave word is ucky (aka yucky).  She says about 10 words and signs 4 words.  She climbs, is starting to run, likes to tell us no, complains if her brother gets something and she does not, loves her babies, and sleeps & eats like a champ!  Recently, she has started sitting on her potty.  Apparently she just likes the attention and the applause she gets from doing this – again, who is this like?  Seriously?!  Cause I don’t think it is Mr Selfish at all……

Brooke starts gymnastics next week as well and I am really excited to take her to the first class.  I am sure it will not be as exciting nor as fun as I imagine, but still.  She loves to be in the water just like her brother.  When we went to Lake Austin this Memorial Weekend, she had no problem getting in the water at all.  Thank goodness!

We have come to that point.  The point where we realized that we really need to make our house, our “home”.  Jeff and I have a laundry list of things we want to do

Crown Molding

Hardwood Floors in all rooms except baths and bedrooms

New bathroom light fixtures

Silestone/Granite in bathrooms

the list is longer, but you get the picture….  lookey there, we actually have something to mark off this here lil 101 list – #49: Crown Molding!  We (meaning Jeff) found a guy who came and installed trim in all areas but the guest baths, back hall, and the kids & guest rooms.  It really made the house looked finished.  We are very pleased!  Jeff also was great enough to install new light fixtures in all our bathrooms.  We got something a bit more “upscale” than those glass bulbs.

Oddly, our next door neighbors had their bathrooms updated with granite (great minds…) and Jeff took the info from the workers.  Now we just need to commit and make the call!  Finally, we need to start shopping around for wood flooring.

Then it is just true decorating: back bedroom, master finishing touches, Connor and Brooke organization, pantry organization, some odds and ends to pull everything together.  I am looking forward to the updates and the final product.  I should since it will have taken over 3 years to achieve.

have finally paid off for me.  It took going through 3 years of  struggling, being told I wasn’t good enough, that I was never going to make it, that I was nothing but a dumb chick & then finally (mercifully) getting laid off to get to this point.  After many, many years of trying to find my way and my fit…..I was fortunate enough to take what could have been a difficult situation and turned it into a positive.  I made it to the organization that I had been trying to get into for years within the timeframe of my package.

I took a position that I had no experience with and was and is so completely different from my skill sets.  Being a Buyer has been a great opportunity.  I have been enjoying it, but most important it paved the way to the position I had applied for 2 previous times – New Products Introduction Buyer Planner.  This role came open when I had been in the new org less than 8 months.  I REALLY wanted to apply, but was anxious to do so.  Lucky for me, I had both the hiring mgr and my own mgr ask me to apply!  My 2nd line mgr even told me that he was completely supportive of me taking on this new role. I interviewed and waited, waited, waited….then – job offer with the promotion!  WHOOP!

The grade change has taken effect and I now report to my new mgr; however, I am and will be working both the current gig and this new one until a backfill is hired and trained for my existing position.  Bring it!  I am beyond excited, grateful, and just ready to rock this new job.

Thank you new org for being supportive and building my confidence back up!
