Chronicles of a Selfish Mommy

3. Laser Hair Removal: Completed!  While I am not hair free, the results were truly awesome!  I am getting another 3 sesssions, but this time at a different place as pricing was better.

14. Take a Creative Arts Class:  Wow!  I NEVER thought I would actually get this one done.  Never!  Thanks to Mills for finding the coolest GNO from groupon!  A group of us girls went to Painting with a Twist.  It was an art class that allowed us to bring wine and snacks while we followed step by step painting instructions.  One of the most creative things we’ve done.  It was WAY more fun than I ever imagined it would be.

19. Date Night:  Although I cannot say we do this every other month, I can say we DO try.  In December, we went to see Avatar.  We have also met for lunch a couple times.  Hey, as parents, we have to take our alone time where we can get it!

34. Mani/Pedi: Since I have continued with the fake nails, I have to get them done once a month.  It’s definitely been hard to keep it up, but oh so worth it!

36. Start College Fund: We went to see a financial advisor a couple of weeks ago.  He seems to think that overall we are doing very well.  He is building a plan for us based on our suggestions and requests for things like, life insurance, college fund planning, diversifying investments.  We look forward to his suggestions!

37. Donate Blood:  Geez, I totally haven’t done this in a long while.  I signed up for March since they are coming to PS1, where I work.

38/39. Spring Cleaning: I have weeded out Connor’s and Brooke’s things.  We will be giving all baby items to the church to disperse to families who need them.  We sold several things on Craigslist and eBay.

44. Reading:  Since I work late and cannot turn my brain off before bed, I have been doing allot of reading.  I finished “Is there Anybody Out There?” by Marian Keyes & “One Fifth” by Candace Bushnell.  I am now reading “Cocktails for Three” by Madeline Wickham (aka Sophie Kinsella).

46. Decorate Home for Holidays: We had our Annual White Elephant Party and I (of course) did up our home again.  I am thinking I need to find some things for Easter/Spring…..

50. Shoe Storage: Jeff made me a sweet shelving unit.  It’s the perfect size and fits all my shoes!

60. Ride Train:  Over the holidays, our family rode the North Pole Flyer.  It was a train ride to Burnet.  It was a beautiful day & Mrs Claus & Santa where there.

102: DVD Watching: geez, I am not even sure I can tell you….Zombieland, District 9, Up.  I know there are more…

119: Photobooks:  Made 2 more this past year as XMas gifts for my grandparents!

Well, I mostly work  & when I am done with that, I work some more.  I have to say, though, I do really, really like what  I am doing.  I am just hoping I learn to better adjust my work/life balance.

Let’s see….. since we last left off, there really hasn’t been anything new for or about me to report.  I still have about 5lbs left of the dreaded baby weight which I can now just call fat.  It doesn’t help that I have forfieted running and working out altogether.  It’s that balancing thing again.   I need to start it all back up as I have a 10k in April and the boat to look forward to this summer.  I am growing out my hair for locks of love and cannot wait until I can cut it.  My laser hair removal sessions are complete and although I am not hairless, the change is incredible!  I ran the Turkey Trot over Thanksgiving and many thanks to my bro for pushing me!  We just barely slid in with under 10 minute miles.

Christmas was a blur, first time in 10 yrs that I didn’t have 2 weeks off.  I barely even had a week off!  We had our annual White Elephant Party which was a very pared down invite this time.  I was so swamped, I was afraid of all the prep work for a big gig.  The in laws came for a wonderful visit over the week I was off.  The kids got allot of cool gifts and then it was business as usual.

I have been planning a couple of things.  I planned a dear friend’s 30th birthday – Zipping & Sipping event.  We went ziplining in the hill country followed by some wine tour & tasting  finished up with an awesome dinner at Mandola’s Winery.  It was one of the best days!  I also planned Connor’s 4th B-Day (SpongeBob) and Brooke’s 1st (Duckie), followed by another dear friend’s Bachelorette Party which is coming up soon.

We bought 2 new TVs, flat screens, for the master and living room.  In order to fit the new one in the living room we had to get a new entertainment center.  It’s worked out nicely.  We also purchased a new kitchen table, which is more in line with our style.  Finely, we updated the office with matching desks.

In the coming months, we plan to upgrade the lighting fixtures in the bathrooms and most likely we will be updating the floors as well.  I see wood in our future.  We also need some storage in the kitchen area as the new table seems to be the dumping ground.

I am looking forward to taking some family photos with Randy & a summer vacation to meet our new nephew (thinking Coronado Beach).  We cannot wait for summer!

Wow!  I don’t know where the time goes, OK, yes I do & it is just so hard to keep up with it.

These next couple of blogs have been a long time in the making.  I hope this finds everyone enjoying their new year, I know we are!  Let’s get to the updates!

Connor

Is 4 years old!  4!  He’s a healthy, strong, and big boy coming in at 42lbs and 42 inches.  According to all that percentile stuff that is 83% & 71% respectively.  Connor still goes to his grandparents during the work week where he is taken to Gymnastics on Wednesdays & Karate on Thursdays.  We have taken soccer back up and are very excited to be returning to our team, go Pirates!  We have put our name on the waiting list for the Pre-K program at St Elizabeth’s Catholic Church.  It’s a Tuesday/Thursday program that both Connor & I are very excited about!  We are hoping to get in this March as we were told there should be an opening.  Worst case is that we start this September.  This is just what the dr ordered as being with his sister all day with no one else to really interact with has really taken a toll.

Connor is our lawyer.  He is very good at getting himself out of trouble.  Ever the smooth talker, we are working on what has become our biggest problem, the back talk.  We are grateful for his wonderful, large vocabulary and ability to express himself with words, but it is most definitely a double edged sword.  He is reading basic words, knows all the alphabet and sounds, can do some basic math, and can spell and write his name.

His sister is his least favorite person and he insists on calling her only, “that baby”.  He is quite passive aggressive and we believe with the break from her when he is out school will work miracles.  Fingers crossed!

Brooke

is ONE!  ONE!  Ever the diva, she yells and yells and then yells some more.  I suppose we have another vocal person on our hands.  Brooke weighs 22lbs and is 28 and 1/2 inches long.  I believe that puts her at the 70% for weight and 25% for height.  Oh our short lil butterball!

She is our sleeper.  She takes a morning nap for about 45 minutes, an afternoon nap for an hour and a half, and then sleeps from 7:30 to 7:30.  I am sure I just jinxed us now….. she loves to eat (as you could have guessed by her weight).  She eats only what we do and about as much as Mommy does.   She wants her equal share, so if Connor gets something, she has to get it too or she puts up a huge fuss.  She drinks from a sippy cup and a straw.  We’re on whole milk and will be getting rid of the last bottle this March.  Brooke has been walking since 11 months old.  She climbs onto anything we let her.  She says, aqua (water), nana, mo (more), dadda, and amp (gramps).  She also signs for “all done”.  She helps put on and take off her clothes.  She knows where her head, feet, teeth, and nose are.  Her favorite game is peek a boo and she loves to cuddle with her baby dolls.

Brooke still has the blue/gray eyes and I am shocked!  I do hope she gets to keep them, although brown like her momma is great too.  She loves to laugh and seems to understand when we are teasing her or playing a game.  Let’s hope this personality sticks around!
