Chronicles of a Selfish Mommy

Archive for May 2009

Yea…honestly?  Right now, I just don’t care that much.  I re-read my list and, sigh, I don’t know why I have some of these anymore.  It’s amazing how time flies and things change.  Life flies by in literally blinks of an eye.  I think I may need to go back and do some editing & evaluating.  Alas, that is for another time and day.

However, there are some things I will be completing this year.

3. Laser hair removal – currently loving the effects and disliking the process

7. Getting the weight down – also loving the effects, but not digging the process

18. Professional Family Photo – Randy Tinney has already agreed & we’ll prolly be snapped in Sept

21. Job change – most likely to a completely different company w/(fingers crossed) more money

25. Pacifier Killer – we’re going COLD turkey once we get Brooke in her crib

79. Cruise Time – to Mexico in Sept

We’re Catholic.  It’s what we do.

Brooke was Baptized on Saturday, May 30th at St Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Pflugerville, TX.  It was a beautiful, well oranized ceremony.  The Priest was excellent and engaging & everyone could see what was going on.  Brooke was a trooper and was VERY well behaved, even when they poured the holy water over her head – no crying!

In celebration, we had a little (catered Rudy’s) BBQ, cake, and drinks at my parents house.  A BIG THANK YOU for all who attended and gave Brooke a little something.  We are so blessed to have family and friends like you all!

Next up?  Well, that would be Connor’s First Holy Communion…..but that’s not for a couple more years.

Fate has intervened.  I have entered upon a new and different stage in my life, if only for short time.  A couple of weeks ago, my place of employment decided to kick me out of the nest.  No worries, I am choosing to think of this as an opportunity.  An opportunity to spend some time being a stay at home parent whilst searching for the job that makes my heart sing (or pays me more moola!).  Heck – maybe I will be fortunate enough to get both!  All things considered, our family is doing fantastic!

This new stage is just as challenging, stressful, and tiring in completely different ways.  How do you keep an infant and a totally energetic (non nap taking) 3 yr old busy, learning, and entertained for 12 hours a day?!  Seriously, I want to know!  It’s a never ending episode of feedings, changes, teaching, crying, whining, loving, and sometimes sleeping (for them).  The job NEVER ends.  There is NEVER time for Mommy.  Oh how I miss computer time, eating without kids, and breaks & it’s only been 2 weeks!  I don’t know how to do it or adjust, but I will!  I think things still feel like “vacation” for me.  Pfft, I haven’t even worked out in these couple of weeks.  Fortunately, my parents had them on a pretty good routine.  I plan to just take it and tweak it a bit.  I just need to find a slot to jog, most likely the morning before 8am while Jeff watches them.  I also need to find time to job search, most likely at night when everyone goes to sleep.

You know what else I have to learn to do?  Um, COOK!  I am now responsible for ALL meals!  Yikes!  What’s the appropriate lunch?  I’ve never done that before….. making a full healthy dinner every night, did you know that process starts at like 5pm if you want it on the table by or slightly before 6pm?!  I didn’t!  Oh!  Then the dishes!  Geez!

I don’t want to stay in this phase too long.  I personally don’t think being a stay at home Mom will be my gig & the hubby prolly won’t be so keen on me doing so.  I do have a totally new found respect for those stay at home Moms now, though.  Here’s to enjoying this new job and getting another one before September!

Gotta run, nap time for Brooke is over and she is beckoning – LOUDLY

has not left me.  I still feel this constant state of wanting to organize, decorate, clean.  It’s driving me bonkers with how I am obsessed w/finding good organization pieces for wine, the laundry room/mudroom, and the kitchen.  I want them and I think I know what I want, but don’t want to just go do it.

Did I mention we also need some finishing touches in our Master and living spaces.

Oh, oh!  I also need to get into a good recycling plan.

The reason I don’t just get it done.  2-fold: I am a commitment phobe & It’s the money, but I know we will all be happier with these things in place.   Ok, maybe I will just be happier… happy wife, happy life – right?

We went this weekend for Mother’s Day.   It’s an easy trip and the place is perfect for small kids.  You can get thru the whole thing in less than 2 hrs!  It is well maintained and they have cool animals.  Aces!

is the state of my life right now.  I think the lack of quality sleep is finally taking it’s toll.  Well, that and I am totally overwhelmed by everything going on with work and life in general right now.  I know, I know….I DO love to have lots & lots to do.  It really does light me up, but for whatever reason I am kinda stressing….  I am holding down several jobs: Mother, Wife, Employee, Daughter, and friend – each one w/it’s unique way of getting my knickers all in a twist.

I have to say it, my job – loving it!  Finally! FINALLY!  However, it just might be the death of me or at least the death of my evenings and mornings.  I have 2 huge programs and a smaller internal project I am working on.  Both are allot to do and quit complex.  The process to get these programs out the door is still in flux and our team does not whole heartedly agree w/the current state of the process…..  I know what I am doing & know I can get this stuff done & done well……. but all the politics and behind the back conversations have left me feeling just not as on top of the game as I think I am.  Baptism by fire with this team…. I feel like I am never ahead of the curve and always playing catch-up,  at least things are interesting….

Personally,  I am trying my darnedest to get back into fighting form.  I am cutting the calories, even giving up all caloric drinks (sans wine of course, I am hardcore, but I am NOT crazy).  I do my best to run 3x a week and will have successfully completed 3 5k races by this weekend.  I actually keep track of my caloric intake and log my exercise daily.  I am fanatical about the anti aging regime and grooming in general (tweezing being especially high on my list).  Every 6 wks I go in for a lightsheer appt (laser hair removal) where they painfully kill all my hair follicles.  Talking about appts, I seem to go to some Dr almost every other month (dentist, dermatologist, ObGyn, physical).  Ah, speaking of doctors, I plan to give blood next month.  I get a mani/pedi once a month.  I cleared out my maternity stuff and am giving some of it to a friend and selling some of it.  That reminds me, need to get to goodwill and list things on Craigslist.  I still desperately need to write thank you cards for Brooke’s Baby Shower Gifts, sigh.  Speaking of baby showers, I am planning my sister in law’s shower.

Then there’s this being a Mother thing.  YOWZA!  Making bottles, getting ready for the next day, cleaning up, doing laundry (oh the clothes we go thru), dishes, cooking/feeding (microwaving is cooking, right?), planning Brooke’s Baptism & lunch (invites, dress, food, documentation, classes), planning playdates and weekend fun (zoo, strawberry farm, pool, water park, Sea World), finding classes for Connor to take during the week & registering for them, bathing everyone, working on manners, dr appts, reading books, answering the same question over and over and over…..the list goes on forever and the constant state of chaos never ends.  Why can’t it be more like the song, “the road goes on forever and the party never ends”?

How’s marriage working out for you?  For me, well thank goodness I have him.  At this pt it’s us against them & they are slowly beating us down.  It’s summer and that means boating seas0n, this season always makes for some heated times (both literally and figuratively).  We are; however, looking forward to a week long cruise.  Speaking of, need to start thinking of the excursions we (we meaning I) want to take while on said cruise.

I am so grateful to have family near by.  I am so thankful that my parents take care of my kids for WAY less than daycare.  As a friend so graciously pointed out, what you don’t pay for in cash you make-up for w/your soul…..true words from this wise friend.  Having family right down the road brings constant guilt. CONSTANT!  If I don’t include them on things, if I don’t see them enough, if I don’t stay and chat…. I love my family, say it with me….. gotta also plan 2 trips to Tucson this yr!  Plus, his family is coming into town to meet Brooke.  Need to plan some fun things to do while they are here – thinking Strawberry Farm!  We shall see….

Finally, my friends.  I am very lucky to have found some I really do like and get along with.  I am so glad they like to plan and do things!  I think right now, though, we have too many things planned that I want to do and can’t.  I HATE missing things, especially things like birthdays.  Just to tick off a couple things: races, BBQs, birthdays (kids and friends), jewelry parties, plays & shows (kid & adult), Girls’ Nights Out, baby showers, boating weekends….I know there are more things coming too!

I do have a wonderful life and I do embrace the constant state of go, go, go we are in.  I suppose I just need to learn how to relax…..did I mention I don’t like to miss anything?

Welcome to the Mommyhood!
