Getting it done, one step at a time.

  • Shaving?  I can totally do that again, phew!  Even better, I cannot wait to start up laser hair removal

  • Decorate Guest Room – we’re gonna completely change the theme. Going w/something more jungle/Asian inspired.  I have some good ideas…
  • Put up curtains in kitchen & dining
  • master bedroom: Put new Comforter set on Master bed, still need curtains, a new rug, and some additional accessories in there
  • Return photo bookdone and got all my money back
  • Buy birthday & bridal presents – bought both birthday gifts, 1 b-day down/1 to go, 2 weddings to go
  • Purchase an organization system for kitchen
  • get car oil changed & leather fixed
  • clean our leather couches
  • purchase actual office furniture
  • finish accessorizing living room
  • Furniture for Brooke’s bedroom
  • #93: Have 2nd Baby’s room finished BEFORE she is born Decorate and organize her room/things: put up nursery and decor, put clothes in their places, bring out baby toys, wipe down everything, go thru Connor’s stuff and clean everything we plan to use, curtainshave letters, Mulberry AW, Butterfly mobile, wall border AW, bedding (crib & twin), curtains, clothes, toys all in their places.  Need to make a canopy from Mulberry curtains and put up the glittery flowers, butterflies.
  • Make a list & buy/rent things we need: this list grows ever longer, I need a couple more nursing bras as I could only find one that fit, bought nursing pads, still need to rent that pump, prolly gonna buy another boppy cover,  diapers, wipes, butt paste, pump, pacifiers, new bottles,  baby detergent

  • Have dr fill out and fax UNUM documents
  • Call UNUM to tell’em when we had Brooke

  • Make sure we get eBay items: wooden letters that spell her name, custom car seat coverreceived both items – can I say LOVES THEM, LOVE THEM, LOVES THEM!
  • Talk to Jeff about piercing her ears immediatelytotally forgot about this one, guess we are waiting

I am ever so grateful to Nainie (Jeff’s Mother).  She was so wonderful to have here the first week after Brooke’s birth.  W/out her, I think Jeff and I may have lost our minds or at very least more money due to eating out.  She not only cooked, helped w/Brooke & Connor, but also allowed us a V-Day date night!

Sunday night, Jeff & I snuck in a quick movie btw feedings.  We went to see Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.  I really, really like the Underworld series of movies.  I thought this was a pretty good prequel.

I am already looking forward to another date night.  Jeff & I desperately need to reconnect and I am VERY much looking forward to that.  🙂

The Cox family is doing surprisingly well transitioning to a family of 4.  This week is probably a fluke now that I just said that…..

Connor is accepting and loving of his new sister.  He wants to help at every turn.  He especially loves to see her get her diaper changed.  Connor wants to hold and touch Brooke every chance he gets & we normally let him, but……. darn it, he has a cold!  The kid that hasn’t been sick in forever & doesn’t go to daycare gets sick the week his sister is born!  Not happy, not happy – fingers crossed she doesn’t get sick.  Unfortunately, we’re working on some wicked back talk and tantrums from Connor.  He has decided to start really pushing his boundaries and testing our limits with Brooke’s arrival.  We had the biggest breakdown yesterday when we were heading out of HEB.  It probably looked like I was stealing the child!  There have been allot of tears and frustration from Connor, plus feelings of guilt from Mommy…… I feel bad that I still cannot pick him up, cannot play w/him while nursing, have to repeatedly tell him not to touch baby now that he’s sick…. sigh, this too shall pass.  Connor now weighs 37lbs & is over 40 inches tall.  He looks HUGE compared to Brooke & I have to keep telling myself that he too is really still a baby.

Jeff is doing very well since he is off the hook for feeding.  He mostly gets to sleep thru the night, but he’ll have his turn when I return to work the 2nd week of April…. The one thing he did get?  The cold from Connor, so he too is also kinda limiting his Brooke help.  Jeff’s mother is visiting and she is a life jacket for us.  I don’t know what we would be eating for dinner w/out her.  She is an awesome cook and then helps keep things tidy!  Thank you, thank you!

My parents have continued w/their Connor routine and we are ever so grateful for there constant in his life.  We felt it very important not to break his routine too much.  My mother was in the delivery room when Brooke was born and was super excited to get that opportunity.  My Dad saw Brooke as soon as Connor woke up.  They haven’t really gotten to see her too much this week, but they will be getting her full time when I head back to work.

Brooke is changing day by day.  Her rashes have cleared up and she looks SO much better.  She is still a tad jaundiced, but the follow-up w/the pediatrician said she was w/in normal limits.  She apparently shrank and (of course) lost weight, but nothing that isn’t considered totally fine.  As with any newborn she mostly sleeps and eats.  I am shocked with her nights!  The 1st night all she really wanted to do was sleep & we had to wake her to eat.  The 2nd night she ate about every 4 hrs (which is not really a good thing for her at this pt).  The next 2 nights home proved difficult bc she cluster fed at night – eating about every 1.5 hrs.  Then lo & behold, since then she has decided that every 2.5-3 hrs is a good schedule for her followed by (gasp!) sleeping!  I am now sure I just jinxed the whole thing…. Nursing is getting easier every day.  I don’t love it, but it’s not what I thought it would be.  I got lucky that she latches well, loves to eat, and production isn’t a problem for me.  Oh yea – Boppy is AWESOME!  But, oh Lordy, the poop!  How can something so little make so much?!  Nursing babies do it more frequently….it’s a good sign, though.  Means she is getting enough to eat.  Brooke has her next Dr appt on Friday, fingers crossed she gained back some (or all) of her birth weight & that jaundice is gone!  We’re trying to break her finger sucking and work on the pacifier.  We think the pacifier is the lesser of the 2 evils since we can take that away (yes, we know that has yet to be proven)……

Mommy is doing well.  Still recovering, I suppose.  Not as tired as I thought I’d be.  Feeling more guilty than I thought about not being the mother I once was to Connor.  More astounded and happy by nursing than I thought.  Already dropping the weight, since my uterus has FINALLY started to really shrink which took FOREVER!  The drawback, the ENORMOUS knockers from nursing! OMG!  Each one I think (seriously) weighs more than Brooke!  Each one!  I think they make me a good 10lbs heavier!  Yikes!  Surprised I don’t really want to drink, man I missed wine….. had a glass last night, but didn’t have any real urge for more…. how things change…..

All in all – I LOVE MY FAMILY!

The Cox family is proud to introduce its newest member – Brooke Browning Cox.

Born at 6:30am on Monday, Feb 9th after a little less than 7 hrs of late night labor (no pitocin), she was delivered into the world weighing 6lbs 9oz & 19 ½ in long.  She is very pink w/lots of brown hair.  Other than that, she looks allot like Connor when he was a newborn.  Everyone is doing wonderfully & will be going home tomorrow.

Brooke is quite alert & LOVES to suck her hands.  She has caught on to nursing well & wants to eat all the time, good for her, but not so much fun for Mommy as we need to work on the latching part bc nursing hurts – BAD!  She is not looking her best right….. hormones have caused baby acne & a rash all over her face & body & she has a bum rash (kinda looks yeast like).  Brooke is also having a problem w/pooping much like her brother did.  She finally went a tiny bit today and I am hoping they consider that good enough.  Drs and nurses all seem to be ok w/this since it can take up to 3 days to pass meconium, plus she’s eating well and only lost 3 oz!

Folks have asked about her middle name; Browning, is a maternal family surname that we liked.  We wanted to keep w/the middle name from a family surname tradition.

We  posted some pics on our family site www.jeffnjenny.com under Brooke folder.   Keep coming back as we will continue to update!

I don’t post pics here, mostly bc I am lame and don’t know how.  I suppose I will learn over maternity leave…..

Anyhoo, head over to our personal website, http://www.jeffnjenny.com/, to check out new pics.  We have a new set of pics at of Connor at Walnut Creek under the Connor File. We are posting belly shots under the Brooke File as well as pictures of her room.    This is the site we will post the majority of our family pictures, so check it out around the time Brooke arrives!

Waiting on Brooke.  I cannot believe we are still waiting.  yes, yes.  I realize we really should be, but this is weird to me.  38 wks, 14 more days… I now bet that we do get to 40 wks and will have to be induced (which we already have scheduled) on 2/20.  Sunday & Monday of this week I was really feeling yuck.  Lots of contractions & Braxton Hicks, but no….. I think I have come to the calm before the storm.  I have felt really quite good Tuesday thru right now.  We shall see…..oh, I am ALWAYS hungry lately.  great, more weight I will have to lose…..

Waiting on kitchen tile.  Fortunately, this waiting will come to an end very soon.  They absolutely found the tile!  Right color, right size verified today.  They come Monday to install it.  Phew!

Waiting on purchases to arrive.  I bought several things for Brooke that we are waiting on: new car seat cover which is due to arrive like any day now, Brooke letters for her room which has taken seriously like 10 weeks & I am still not sure when they are set to arrive, & Mulberry curtains and pillows which should be coming in this week.  UPDATE! Today I received the carseat cover and the Mulberry curtains and pillows!  All 3 things are totally awesome!  Letters, where are you?!

Waiting on me to make up my mind on some of these home decor things on my list.  I swear, I can commit to one person for the rest of my life, but I cannot commit to something as simple as curtains or vases….

Just a quick, WOOHOO for getting stuff done.  Nothing like taking it down to the wire!
