Chronicles of a Selfish Mommy

Archive for January 2009

Here we are, not even another week out from last post & already there are changes….

We went to the Dr yesterday and I am 3 cm dilated & baby is hanging low.  She guessed that Brooke would prolly arrive within the next week or so.  She again noted that as soon as those contractions are consistent, I need to head in.  Sigh, I really wanted to go at LEAST one more week and hit 38 weeks – Just to put more weight on her.  Who knows, I may get to 38 weeks……hum, prolly not.

We went to the Dr on Friday and I am merely 1 cm dilated.  She guessed that Brooke was maybe 6lbs, sigh!  All this weight for 6 lbs!  I have officially put on about 34 lbs which makes me 3 lbs heavier than top Connor weight.  Not horrible, but I would like to bake her for at least another week…… 40lbs, here I come!  She is definitely head down w/a nice strong heartbeat holding steady at 147.  On another note, they wanted to prepare me for the high potential I have of having to do natural childbirth.  Nice, real nice….. I am being told that I may go so fast that I WON’T get DRUGS!  OMG!

That being said, I am horribly, horribly hormonal and uncomfortable.  I have painful Braxton Hicks contractions erratically, but fairly frequently.  She is pushing on my cervix so hard that it hurts to sit or stand.  I have pretty much relegated myself to my bed in an inclined position.  Yes, I am being a big ol’ baby….. I swear, she pushes on me so hard when she moves that I think she is gonna come thru my stomach like in Alien.  I will be 37 weeks on Wednesday & that’s when I go in for my next check.   I am dreading it.  Those things hurt, BAD!

On to some good news.  Apparently I pissed Jeff off enough with my being so pissed about not being ready for Brooke that it lit a fire under his ass.  We have made some significant dents in my rather long to-do lists….

  • Need to get on this shaving thing
  • Mani/Pedi – did this for January
  • Haircut
  • Purchase Clinique Make-Up
  • Decorate Guest Room
  • Put up curtains in kitchen & dining
  • Put new Comforter set on Master bed, still need curtains, a new rug, and some additional accessories in there
  • Return photo book – done, bastards better give me ALL my money back
  • Buy birthday & bridal presents
  • Purchase an organization system for kitchen
  • get car oil changed & leather fixed – got car oil changed
  • clean our leather couches
  • purchase actual office furniture
  • finish accessorizing living room
  • Furniture for bedroom: Jeff FINALLY decided (after we had this discussion the minute we moved into this home) that the back bedroom needed to be a guest room, not a gym.  So, he sold all his workout equipment and moved all the furniture we planned to use for Brooke into the back room.  Now she has nothing but a crib.  For whatever reason Jeff thinks this is fine.  Uh, where do we plan to put her clothes?  Where do we change her diaper?  Others have suggested we just get a set of drawers for now – uh, no.  If we’re gonna do this, then let’s do it and get it all to match.
    • UPDATE!  We purchased her bedroom furniture today from Rooms To Go Kids.  It’s called Ivy League Honey and I think it will be a good fit.  It’s pretty much what we wanted and what we were willing to pay.  Best thing is, we get it tomorrow!  Brooke has a place for her clothes!  I was so upset by her not having a place for her things, it was crazy….
  • Decorate and organize her room/things: put up nursery and decor, put clothes in their places, bring out baby toys, wipe down everything, go thru Connor’s stuff and clean everything we plan to use, curtains
    • UPDATE! All her crib bedding is in the crib, her valances are ready and we are awaiting the drapes, all the babyt gear and toys are out and ready.  Once we get her furniture, her clothes will be neatly tucked away and we can put up wall stuff!  I am thinking we’ll have this completed by mid-week!  Phew!  Just need to get a comforter for her bed now….hum…..
  • Make a list & buy/rent things we need: diapers, wipes, butt paste, pump, pacifiers, new bottles, anything nursing related that I have no idea about, baby detergent
    • UPDATE! Diapers, pacifiers, baby detergent – checks!
  • Wash all her clothes & blankets in baby detergent – DONE
  • Figure out nursing
  • Pack hospital bag – have her coming home outfit ready
  • Ensure hospital got early registration – not only did I fax it over a couple weeks ago, I also gave it to the Dr office to hand over….. I feel pretty good about this being done
  • Figure out & keep in close contact w/Dr emergency # – DONE, have a whole folder with all the critical info I need
  • Have dr fill out and fax UNUM documents – had to pay $15 for processing “fees”, pfft…. but, it’s done
  • Call UNUM to tell’em when we had Brooke
  • Plan Baptism: parents’ class, ensure both godparents take their class and get their documents in
  • Make sure we get eBay items: wooden letters that spell her name, custom car seat cover
  • Talk to Jeff about piercing her ears immediately (I want them pierced!)  )  – he said I can do whatever I want, if they do pierce them there – it’s so on!
  • Baby Shower Thank You cards
  • Determining whether we want to send out announcements, we didn’t for Connor

#11 One New Recipe a Month: I made Balsamic & Garlic Chicken, Chicken Pot Pie, and Cranberry Chutney all in Dec.  For Jan I made Creamy Dreamy Chicken Casserole.

#32 Keep Sites Updated: well, lets just say backgrounds have changed, pictures have been added, blogs have been posted!

#34 Monthly Mani/Pedi: Dec Check, will probably go on Thursday of this week

#44 Read one Book every other Month: Finished Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella & Class Mothers by Katherine Stewart.  I enjoyed Sophie’s book so much for than Class Mothers.  I am now reading Angels & Demons by Dan Brown

#53 Take Photos at important events: Connor’s 3rd Birthday, Tucson Trip over Thanksgiving, XMas Holidays, weekly growth of Brooke, and Brooke’s Baby Shower.  All are posted on webshots, facebook, myspace, and our webpage

#73 Pay off one of our Vehicles: we will pay off the Acura by the end of this month!  One down, 2 more to go!

#99 Where something other than jeans once a week: checks for this one…..  mostly bc I am super uncomfortable in jeans.  I’ve worn a couple of dresses for Xmas and Brooke’s Shower and then mostly I am SO in sweat city…

#107 New Master Bedroom Set: I finally got me a set that I truly like.  It has all the colors and the design I was looking for.  I wanted something modern, but kinda had a tropical feel.  It’s called Beverly Glen Cambelle and I got it at Anna’s Linens.  Now, I just need to get some curtains, figure out what do to w/the window seat, get some additional accessories & just commit to the rug I want.

#110 Family Yr End Blog: So, the previous posts… yea, those are like the yr end blogs…..  good enough!

#113 Change Workout Room to Guest Room: I CANNOT, CANNOT believe we actually did this one.  I thought Jeff would NEVER give up his “gym”.  I really don’t know what made him change his mind, but he just upped and decided that the back room become a full fledged guest room.  One day I came home and he had moved all Brooke’s furniture into the back room and literally sold all his workout equipment.  So, now I get to decorate this room.  I need some AW and accessories and curtains now….

I know I am nesting bc the list you are about to view is really kinda crazy and not truly that important, but I am totally obsessing….  first, though a quick update on Jeff & I.  These last couple of posts are equivalent to my yr end blog.  Yes, it’s late…. too bad, at least I did it!

Jeff is still with Sandisk and very content there.  His job allows him allot of flexibility which has really been helpful in raising a family.  He still has 2 hobbies which keep him in shape and focused – boating & mountain biking.  Both are an obsession…. As most of you know, Jeff got braces this past yr.  This was a big change for him especially when it comes to eating and care.  I cannot wait to see those new and improved teeth and I am sure he cannot either!  Other than that, most things are par for the course.

Personally and professionally speaking, 2008 was turbulent for me.  Let’s see, I have been pregnant for over a yr now, so I am desperately ready for Brooke to be out of me.  As most of you know, we had a miscarriage almost one year ago.  Fortunately, getting pregnant again proved fairly easy.  I did get to run in my first 10k and I plan to try my hand at another one this yr!  I am SO looking forward to returning to my normal shape & size.  From a work perspective,  I still work for Dell and have been there for 9 yrs come June.  I am currently still working with Tech Support in their Project Mgmt Organization.  Since becoming part of this team (almost 2.5 yrs now), I seem to change Mgrs about every 6 mths.  2008 was no exception, I changed Mgrs 3x again this yr.  The first 2 roles were just not what I needed or wanted them to be & am I sincerely looking forward to this new role and mgr in 2009.  I can honestly say that I am really excited about it!  I purchased laser hair removal last yr that I will get to complete this yr, definitely looking  forward to that.  I am also nervous about nursing Brooke…. Other than that, I am just trying to make life as normal and fun as possible as we adjust to being a family of 4.  There’s allot I want to accomplish with this 101 list as well as some things I didn’t even mention in it.  I plan to re-arrange the list and make it more about things that are important and those that are less so…..

Here’s my personal list:

  • Need to get on this shaving thing
  • Mani/Pedi
  • Haircut
  • Purchase Clinique Make-Up
  • Decorate Guest Room
  • Put up curtains in kitchen & dining
  • Put new Comforter set on Master bed, still need curtains, a new rug, and some additional accessories in there
  • Return photo book
  • Buy birthday & bridal presents
  • Purchase an organization system for kitchen
  • get car oil changed & leather fixed
  • clean our leather couches
  • purchase actual office furniture
  • finish accessorizing living room

Ok, I think those are the top things.  Nothing too horrible, I suppose.  Here’s to 2009!

Connor is such a fun boy.  He is so lovey & cuddly!  The last couple of nights he’s been climbing into bed with us.  I know we shouldn’t let him, but I just want him to feel extra loved and special before Brooke arrives.

At last Dr visit (Dec), Connor weighed in at 26lbs and 38in.  I think that put him btw the 75%-80%  range for both weight and height.  Thank goodness he didn’t get the Mommy short gene!  At his first dentist appt (Nov), he did very, very well.  He let the hygienist clean his teeth & let the dr check them without any problems.  They said he has 20 teeth and they all look awesome.  The only concern – damn pacifier!  Yes, I know – totally our fault.

At 3 yrs old, our little boy is trying so hard to make the leap to big boy.  As we noted previously, he does sleep in his own bed.  He’s completely day potty trained.  He eats almost anything and eats allot of it.  Connor loves to be outside and play rough (Daddy & Connor play SmackDown).  He loves the water which is a good thing since we have a boat.  He knows his ABCs & most of the sounds, numbers up to at least 10, all his colors, loves to rhyme, knows opposites, plays Old Maid and we are learning War & Go Fish.  He loves to have books read to him, esp things about trucks/construction vehicles, Dinosaurs & anything by Dr Seuss.  He still loves trucks & construction vehicles of all kinds & actively points them out.   He speaks very clearly and pretty much anyone can understand and hold a conversation with him.  Connor is a true negotiator and his logic surprises me.  He is very into asking Why and What comes next?

Connor goes to library once a week and has recently started gymnastics once a week at our local Recreation center.  He still stays with Nana & Gramps during the work week and we are ever so grateful for that.

Just like the Brooke list, I have one for Connor as well – here we go!

  • Organize/Decorate his room: I feel his room is still not up to inspection.  We need to get some basic decorations on the walls and better organize his clothes, shoes, and toys
  • Need to go thru his current wardrobe and see what fits
  • Break the pacifier habit: I think we are gonna follow Mills and have a nip-nip fairy come and take them and leave a cool toy in their place
  • Doing research on programs he can participate in, including Parents Day Out & other activities

I am thinking there may be more, but those are the heavy hitters for me right now.  Thank goodness it’s a much shorter list!

I figured that I’d take a moment and give everyone a quick update on Brooke.  We’re STILL BAKING!  Yippee!

We’re currently at 36 weeks, so really need AT LEAST 1 more week until we’re considered full term and I would like at least 2 more weeks before she’s born.  Yes, I realize her due date is 2/19…  Brooke seems to be a very active little girl and loves to harass Mommy all day by really getting  in some licks & agressive rolls.  Everyone says I will miss these,  I don’t think I will.  I am now getting really, really anxious & kinda nervous – “seriously, why did I do this again?!”  I figure it should be fine as this hospital is supposed to hook you up to the epidural as soon as you arrive.

My wonderful friends and Mom hosted a fun & lovely baby shower this past Saturday, Jan 17th.  I am so very fortunate & blessed to have so many friends and family that love and care for me.  My Sister in Law (Megan) as well as Mother in Law (Anne) both made it out from Arizona to celebrate with me, too!  It was so great having them here for the weekend and celebrating with me.  Thank you to EVERYONE who came out and for the gifts!  I think we got all the bedroom decor and I am fairly sure we have enough clothes now to get us thru at least 6 mths old (partially due to the Mills and their awesome hand me downs!).

We still have so much to get done!  I am trying to take it all in stride but the nesting instinct is in WAY overdrive.  Just a few things on the Brooke List

  • Determining whether we want to send out announcements, we didn’t for Connor

Yikes, I am overwhelmed just looking at this!

Christy went and tagged me, why?! oh why?!  😛

5 things that will rock my socks off in 2009 are:

1 – Delivering Brooke in February & actually trying to nurse
2 – Migrating to a family of 4
3 – Finally completing Laser Hair Removal (hopefully) completed by summertime
4 – Taking some well deserved time off to bond with Brooke – maternity leave!
5 – Getting back in shape, since I’ve been out of commission for a year, this one will probably be the toughest

Anyone else wanna pitch in their thoughts on what’s gonna be fine in  2009?
