Chronicles of a Selfish Mommy

Archive for May 2008

There are a few things I was just not motivated to do over our “vacation”.  Here is the list of my many misses for this month…

  • Still didn’t register for nor attend any Church (#1 &2).
  • We didn’t migrate Connor to his new room, although this doesn’t have an official timeframe, we still should have done it (#112)
  • I didn’t clean out the pantry nor the fridge, although both look pretty good.  What I really want to do is organize them (#51 & 52).
  • We didn’t hang any curtains, nor make any big purchases for entryways, offices, nor master bedrooms (#106-108 & 114).
  • I do have things to donate to goodwill as we did clean out stuff, but we haven’t dropped anything off (#39).
  • I made ZERO attempts to workout (#6).
  • I am heavier than I’ve been in a LONG while (#7).
  • We didn’t get to go to the zoo.

However, there is some positive news…. I DID

  • Try really, really hard for Baby #2 (#4)
  • Update all my sites with the exception of our family personal website (#32)
  • Am almost finished with yet another book.  It’s by Candance Bushnell, “Trading Up”.  I also purchased about 6 new books to continue with my pursuit of reading. (#44)
  • We took allot of photos over the course of our “vacation”, just check out webshots (#53)
  • I did go out on the boat the last 2 weekends in a row (#83)
  • I caught the tiniest of tiniest bit of air this last weekend while wakeboarding, not counting it though (#86)
  • I wore allot of shorts this week, so I didn’t wear the standard uniform of jeans and tee (#99)
  • We watched The Reaping last night.  Which I personally enojoyed. (#102)

I suppose I was split for this month…..not too shabbby overall….  🙂

I think right now, I am breaking even…. I have been out 2 of the 4 weekends this month.  However, I am getting “lucky” since there are actually 5 weekends in May.  Does going out twice this week make up for missing another weekend?  I say, “YES!”

I haven’t done much wakeboarding as Jeff claims he is “hurting”, so we tend to just go out to Lake Travis and play in the coves.  This might be better anyway since Connor prefers it.  I am guessing Lake Travis will be our lake of choice this year.  Not only does a good friend have a dock we can use for free without other boats bothering us, but the water is warmer.  I suppose we’ll board a bit in some of the less used coves, I want to try to get some air in before I get preggers!  😛

This morning we decided since we are on “vacation” to head down to Zilker Park and ride the Zephyr.  For those of you that don’t know what the Zilker Zephyr is, it’s a kid’s train that takes you on a 25 minute “tour” of Zilker Park. We got up bright and early, mostly because Connor didn’t sleep well last night and ended up in bed with us…. anyhoo, we got up early.  Fortunately, the first ride is at 10:15am.  We made it there JUST in time to get a seat.  It was a beautiful day for going to Zilker!  The ride itself was nothing special nor were any of the sights, but Connor thoroughly enjoyed it which made it all worth it.

We decided to hang around and check out the Splash! Exhibit (it was free & for good reason) at the Beverly S Sheffield Center as well as Barton Springs and finally the ginormous play area.  All in all, it was a really good morning & Connor must have agreed since he passed out on the car ride home….  🙂

For those we are not bleeding Dell blue, Green Belt is a term used within the scope of what our company calls Business Process Improvements (BPI).  This program is based off the quality improvements derived from Six Sigma.  Basically, a program you are running can be approved for a “belt” if you can get it to meet certain criteria by showing significant fiscal &/or productivity improvements as well understanding of the underlying quality & tools processes/analysis.

Anyhoo, I want one.  Not only will it enhance my current job role and understanding of my daily business and job, but it will also look darn good on a resume!  Lucky me!  The current manager I report to just loves them, loves them!  I am getting put on a program as a co-lead for a Global Green Belt Program.  I am excited, yet nervous at the same time.  This is a HUGE endeavor, but if I can get this…. then maybe I can achieve my #21!  I have been working on this program since about end of April and I anticipate this won’t be completed till at least Oct/Nov timeframe…. yes, these things take a LONG time to not only plan, but implement and report/track as well.  We apparently need proof that what we put into place works and is sustainable, go fig!  😛  This is part of my actual performance plan, so wish me luck!

How can some things go so smoothly and others become such a nightmare?!  What we thought would be the harder of the 2 is actually the easier one…. Connor has taken to potty training like we couldn’t believe.  Now, we’re still not pooping on it… so….. we’ve resorted to bribery.  Yes, I said it.  We’re bribing our child to poop in the pot.  Lately (or should I say always), he’s been really, really into big rigs and monster trucks.  In order to help him along the path to complete lack of diapers, I purchased 2 really sweet toys – one giant monster truck and a rather large big rig.  I told him, that pooping in the potty would get him one of those cool toys.  You know what that kid told me one day after I went?  You guessed it!  Mom went in the potty, so now I can open the toy for him to play with it!  Smart bugger!  Of course, I explained that HE would be the one that had to go and HE alone….. yea, this was like 2 weeks ago…. nothing yet…..  However, I am still rather proud.  We have a 2 yr old boy who is pretty much diaper free.  He even tells us when he has to poop or pee, so it shouldn’t be long now…. as Connor likes to tell us when he desperately needs a diaper, “It’s coming! Hurry!”

Pacifiers, or as we call them, nip-nips…. these are an entirely different beast.  I do not think there is ANY amount of bribery that will compell this child to part with his dearly beloved nip-nips.  Heck, now he’s even resorted to needing TWO each night!  I pray that once he is ridiculed in pre-K that he will finally give them up for good, but this kid is one tough cookie….. fingers crossed we can get to him before those other kiddos do!

This evening we are taking our annual family photo back to where it should have stayed all along….. we have our wonderful, brilliant wedding photographer, Randy Tinney, taking our photos again!  We plan to head out to Apache Shores along Lake Austin to take some (hopefully) beautiful sunset photos.  Randy always does such a good job at capturing everything our family is…..I am so looking forward to getting some really great shots!

There have been some things I’ve gotten done in the last couple of weeks, FINALLY!  Let’s re-cap…

WINS! 🙂

  • #3: Laser Hair Removal – I broke down and bought a package.  I am getting my underarms and bikini area treated.  I had my first treatment a week ago, May 7th.  It took only 30 minutes, but I have to so….. boy did it hurt & smell weird!  I am not sure what I think just yet.  I was supposed to see a drastic improvement.  I did with the arms, not so much with my other area…. I have to wait 6 wks in btw sessions, so let’s hope I can get one more in before I get pregnant again!
  • #6: Workout 3x per Week – Ever since the week before my big 10k race, I have been hitting the treadmill fairly consistently and regularly.  My parents have a treadmill that I am borrowing on the short term and I have decided that I really, really love having it right there.  I personally don’t like jogging on a treadmill as it makes me dizzy, but boy is it convenient!  Plus, it forces you into a consistent pace.  I ran another race this past week, so I am feeling pretty good about myself!
  • #11: Prepare 1 new Recipe a Month – April’s recipe was Busy Day Pork.  I made it the last possible day I could for April….it came from what was the Light n Tasty magazine, now called Healthy Cooking.  U upped the ante and added some pesto and crushed walnuts, presto – gourmet!  May’s recipe was a very tasty Baked Honey Mustard Chicken recipe as well as Marinated Baked Pork Chops both from the allrecipes website!  Updated: 5/28
  • #19: Date Night! – although this might not truly be a “date”, I am counting it because my parents sat Connor all night & we went to a nice dinner… we went out to dinner at Cru Downtown for Monica’s birthday.  We were late and had to sit by ourselves, so what was kinda a bummer situation turned into a slightly positive for us!  Can I also count heading out to the lake this Memorial Day weekend?  Jeff and I went sans Connor, that should count for something, right?! Updated 5/28
  • #34: Monthly Mani/Pedi – April’s splurge was also a very last minute lucky break.  I had a Dr Appt, so I took off the entire afternoon and did that, then went and had my toes and hands did…. ah, to have yourself pampered, even at Walmart, feels like such a luxury!  May’s mani/pedi was truly a splurge!  My girlfriends and I met at Zen Spa to get a mani/pedi.  I got this done last Friday, 5/23 to be ready for my great party weekend and vacation the following week.  I have to say, I missed my Wal-Mart ladies.  Updated 5/28
  • #37: Donate Blood Once a Quarter – last “quarter” (Dec-Feb), I was preggers so this was a no go.  This “quarter” (Mar-May), I did give blood!  I made an appt at the RR clinic this past Friday, May 16th.  It was as easy as could be.  I had a dentist appt up there, so I figured what the hay…..
  • #44: Read one book a Quarter – I completed the final installment of the left behind series!  Woo-hoo!  It only took me 3 years, but there were like 15 books….. anyhoo, I closed that series the first week of May.  I am now reading another chick lit book by Sophie Kinsella called “Can you keep a secret?”  I really loved her books Confessions of a Shopaholic.  Which reminds me, I think I need one more of those to complete the series…
  • #99: Wear something other than jeans once a week – sometimes I do awesome, sometimes I don’t.  The last couple of weeks have been easy due to the types of meetings that I have had.  I have another one of those this week, so another week in the green!  For the record, I normally wear slacks with a work appropriate top.  Although, I did wear a really cute dress for Mother’s Day!
  • #102: Watch Netflix Movies – Let’s see… I have watched 27 Dresses, Arthur and the Invisibles, Untraceable, & Juno.  All of them fairly decent flicks with my fave being Juno – a MUST watch in my eyes!
