Chronicles of a Selfish Mommy

Archive for March 2008

The month of March has been the WORST in my entire 30 yrs.  Heck, the start of my 30s hasn’t been too great to boot.  Given all the crap that has been thrown my way, I am truly surprised that I have not been crying non-stop or more bitter.  In fact, I haven’t really cried at all.  Maybe that is the way I deal with it, matter of factly.  Taking all the bad and negative and working on those things I can only fix or change.  I have to say though, it’s been very hard to stay away from the woe is me, why me mantra.  Let’s re-cap the month of March, shall we?

I have a job that does not value me & I cannot seem to find another one.  I had a miscarriage which I’ll save everyone the gruesome details on.  My work notebook crashed the week I came back from the personal loss and I was without one all week.  Then the icing on the cake, our work cell phones are being taken away.

Here are some of the things I have said to myself to help me put things in perspective

~ If this is the worst, then I am very lucky

~ Best to have my body handle this naturally than be forced to make a tough decision or have a baby born that struggles

~  I have a flexible work schedule

~ I still make decent money and we are not in any way hurting

~ I just got myself a brand new notebook with all the cool bells and whistles w/no data lost

~ No cell phone means not on call 24/7 & my load has now lightened

~ My family and I are in good health

Repeat after me – I am good enough, I am smart enough, and dog gonnit – people like me….  😛

How’s that for staying positive?

I tried my darndest to watch Atonement on Friday with Monica and Brandy.  I think Brandy was the only one that got thru it, but I should get props anyway!  😛

I spoke to Jacque today for a good hour.  It was nice to catch up.  I honestly haven’t seen here in about 8 yrs, but we have now begun to talk on the phone and/or e-mail about once every 3 mths.  I look forward to the hectic lives we both have to slow down so that we can meet up again!

Typically, the entire Cox Family goes to Coronado Island every year for a little sun and fun.  It’s located right off San Diego and is a cute and quaint lil place to visit.  I went for the first time a couple summers back when Connor was about 6 mths old.  The highlight of the trip was Sea World!

This year we’re heading back in July (16th – 20th) with the majority of the extended Cox Clan.  You can make darn sure that we hit up the San Diego Zoo this time.  I was SUPER disappointed that we didn’t get to go that first year!  I am already looking forward to a break!

UPDATE:  Looks like lots of folks are not gonna be able to make it.  This might not happen after all….  😦

We recently had our first emergency room experience a couple weeks back.  Not only did we not know where the closest Urgent Care or Emergency was, we don’t really know the basics of CPR nor First Aid.  So, of course, I scour the net to find the closest Urgent and Emergency Rooms to us – CHECK!  Now, I have scheduled myself into an Adult, Child, and Infant First Aid and CPR class.

The 6 hr class is being given for $60 at the Central Texas American Red Cross which is located in downtown Austin.  My class is on Saturday, April 12th at 8am!  I’ve done a class like this before when I was a Camp Counselor back in college…… yea, it’s been awhile.  I think the cool thing is that I stay certified for something like 3 or 4 yrs!  Yippee!

Side note, Connor was fine.  He fell off a chair and hit his head.  Head wounds bleed and it looked bad, turns out it was totally superficial and didn’t require anything but a good cleaning and some bandage glue.  Phew!

Since I am no longer knocked up and there will be a couple months before I will be again…..thought, why not knock something else off the list…..

I signed up for the Texas Round-Up 10k scheduled for Saturday, April 26th at 8am.  I ran the 5k Texas Round-Up last year, so I am not a stanger to the race.  This gives me over a month to beef back up into running form.  It will be my FIRST 10k, but I am not too worried….. figured I’ve run 5 miles, what’s another mile and a tiny bit of change?  I’ll let you know for sure come April 26th about 9ish am!  😛

Sad news for the Cox Clan today.  We found out the baby we’re expecting was never really there.  My intuition was right, I just didn’t feel pregnant and turns out I wasn’t.  Apparently, there was no developing baby just an empty sac.  Although we are sad, we believe that all things happen for a reason.

We appreciate everyone’s sympathy and well wishes, but there is no need to say or send anything.

Don’t count us out just yet, there will be another Cox, just not as soon as we thought!

So, I am adding #4 BACK to the list…..

That means, GULP – that I will start working out again… damn bikini season!  It also means I plan to donate blood in the coming months & maybe just maybe I can catch some air or do a lil bunny hop this summer!  Oh, let’s not forget about the running goals – can someone please tell me why I did that to myself?
